Customs seizes 628 jerry cans of smuggled petrol, others worth N20m in four weeks

The Nigerian Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone D Bauchi has intercepted 628 jerry cans of smuggled petrol, 78 pieces of donkey skin and four drums of petrol in four weeks.

The Comptroller of FOU Zone D, Aliyu Abubakar made this known while briefing journalists on Wednesday on the activities of smugglers in Bauchi. He said that 628 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 4 drums of PMS, 16,635 liters of PMS, six sacks of fresh donkey skin containing 78 pieces each and other items were intercepted between September 6th and October 8th, 2024.

The cumulative Duty Paid Value of all the seized items stands at Twenty Million Three Hundred and Thirty Thousand Two Hundred and twenty Five Naira Only 20,330,225=

“It is pertinent to note that the interception of these seizures were achieved as a result of robust information gathering and credible intelligence sharing by other customs units such as the CIU, Customs police, SIS, vigilant and resilient patrol officers of FOU Zone 'D'.

“Our operative's actions are in accordance with all extant laws as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA 2023), particularly section 245 (provisions as to detention, seizure and condemnation of goods) and 226 (power to patrol freely),” he explained.

Abubakar appealed to patriotic citizens on the need to provide credible information to the Service to curb the menace of smuggling which is bent on crippling the economy of the Nation.
