Mohammed dismisses suspensions in PDP as Damagum rushes to Bauchi, rallies governors

By Rauf Oyewole

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and the Chairman of the People's Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, has dismissed the suspension and counter suspension of some members of the Party's National Working Committee (NWC).

Mohammed made this known in Bauchi on Friday when the embattled Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagu and the North East state chairmen visited him at the Government House.

While speaking, Mohammed said that although controversial issues are not resolved publicly. “We have discussed these suspensions with the Acting National Chairman (Damagum) and resolved to work together with other organs of the party –BoT, members of the Governors Forum, the caucus of National Assembly members.

“Henceforth, we will encourage stakeholding so that all these issues that are disparaging the members of the party will be resolved within,” he said.

Mohammed described allegations of Damagum playing the script of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike as mere perception. “The manifestation is just the body language or all these issues, we have discussed all these issues –from relationship, inter-relationship and personal relationship and my friendship with him (Damagum) and how we have really disagreed on so many issues. Henceforth, we will not allow a gap, we will deepen stakeholding,” he said.

On the alleged plot to remove him as the Governors Forum Chair, Mohammed said that he has also discussed the issue with Damagum. “It may not be true but these are perceptions,” he said.

He said that: “We are not recognising any faction, we are together as a body and definitely at the end of the day, we will resolve all issues. No faction in the PDP.

“We may have problems, we may have political hiccups but certainly, we have a way of coming back to stop our problems and challenges and making sure that we have a common front. I will consult with my colleagues, the PDP Governors on the next line of action they would take because this is a very good outing.

“I'm sure that the party would come together and resolve all the contending issues. We have agreed in the presence of other stakeholders that we are going to do that so that we will return the glory of the party for it to triumph in the 2027 general elections,” Mohammed said.

ALSO, the embattled Damagum said that he has decided to pay a visit to the Governor with state chairmen of the region to inform him that PDP is united in the North East.
