Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has been conferred with the prestigious title of Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The title was bestowed upon him by the NUJ National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, who led a delegation to Kano on Sunday.
Comrade Isiguzo was flanked by the Deputy National President, Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, during the conferment of the title.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Yusuf assured the NUJ of his administration's continued support for the media, emphasising the importance of a free press in promoting democracy and good governance.
He expressed his pride in accepting the role of Grand Patron, pledging to provide all necessary support to the union and its members in the state.
"I assured the NUJ of my administration’s continued support for the media in fulfilling its social responsibilities.
"We hold the media in very high regard and our relationship with journalists in Kano and beyond is excellent.
"I am honoured to accept the role of Grand Patron of the NUJ in Kano, and I pledge to provide all necessary support to the union and its members in the state.", he stated.
