The North-East Zonal Working Committee ZWC and the six states Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has aligned with the position of the governors, the Board of Trustees, National Assembly Caucus and all the major critical stakeholders in the zone as part of effort to resolve the leadership crisis bedeviled the party.
The Zonal Chairman of the Party Reverend Emmanuel Bovoa, explained this in a communique at the end of Zonal Working Committee and State Chairmen in the zone held on Wednesday at the Zonal Secretariat in Bauchi. He said "as regards to the National Chairmanship tussle, the meeting agreed that status quo be maintained.
“Umar iliya Damagu is a recognized acting National Chairman, while Mohammed Ahmed Yayari reverted back to his position as treasurer," he said.
Represented by the Zonal Secretary, Kabiru Bappah Jauro, the Zonal Chairman said that the unity and peace of the party cannot be overstated, especially at such a crucial time. “We believe the position taken by the leaders of the party shall bring decorum and sanity that will lead the party to lofty height.”
He said that the zonal working committee meeting of the Zonal working committee and Chairmen was necessitated by the current happening at the National Level of the Party. He added the working committee would continue to seek avenues for mutual understanding among its members across the states in the zone.
Jauro said "The meeting acknowledged and appreciated the unparalleled infrastructural development by the PDP governors in their respective States and urged them not to relent on the solid foundation they had laid".
He said that the meeting reflected on the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party at the helm of affairs as a ruling party and how it lost out to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015. The PDP years were indeed a blessing to the Nation.
"It was observed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has brought untold hardship to the generality of Nigerians and no proactive measures are being taken to remedy the situation.
"The meeting agreed that it is only the PDP that can provide the needed solution to the current challenges facing the nation. Thus making it the last hope of Nigerians as the messiah for salvation.
“The stakeholders passed a vote of confidence on the three governors of Adamawa, Bauchi and Taraba for performing very well and urged them to continue providing the dividends of democracy to the people of the zone and Nigeria at large," he said.
