BASEPA, others' giant strides In eradicating open defecation

By Sani Adamu Musa

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) has taken giant strides in eradicating open defecation in the state.

The Director General of the Agency, Mahmoud Muhammad Bose, disclosed this while receiving members of a journalists' team who followed up on a report on the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status of Bauchi Local Government Area.

Bose said the agency is employing all necessary mechanisms to ensure sustainability of the ODF status achieved by the state. "We are taking measures to ensure that the state will be addressed as Open Defecation Free state," he said.

The Director General also revealed that the agency has budgeted for the construction of 30 public toilets in the state capital in 2025.

BASEPA has been working closely with traditional leaders, UNICEF, and other partners to support its efforts to eradicate open defecation.

The agency has also been collaborating with the media and civil society organizations to create awareness about the dangers of open defecation.

Bose commended UNICEF and other partners for their support in the crusade against open defecation.

He also commended journalists for their role in promoting sanitation and hygiene in the state.

In a related development, the Bauchi State Government has announced plans to construct more public toilets in the state capital.

The government has also called on residents to participate actively in the sanitation exercise and take ownership of their environment.

The efforts of BASEPA to eradicate open defecation have been yielding positive results.

The agency's collaboration with traditional leaders, UNICEF, and other partners has been instrumental in achieving the ODF status.

The construction of public toilets in the state capital is also expected to reduce the incidence of open defecation.

The Director General of BASEPA has called on residents to continue to support the agency's efforts to eradicate open defecation.

"We urge all residents to continue to support our efforts to eradicate open defecation. Together, we can maintain a clean and healthy environment for the benefit of all," he said.
