Northern group sends ‘SOS’ to Jonathan, rejects Tinubu

By Rauf Oyewole

A Northern group, Arewa Consensus for Jonathan has regretted voting against the then president, Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, saying that he meant well for the country, having tested two different leaders.

The National Coordinator of the group, Manniru Musa Yisin while addressing a press briefing in Bauchi on Sunday, said that as Nigerians of Northern extraction, “we really felt particularly privileged under Jonathan's administration especially when he came up with a tailored human development programme that was aimed at checking the challenges of human capital deficits in the northern region.

“For example, appreciating the importance of education for personal and community development as well as nation building, we feel deeply indebted to His Excellency the former President for initiating and actualizing many education programmes including the need-based Almajiri Education Initiative with a view to giving the helpless northern muslim children an opportunity to live a decent life. Unfortunately, that initiative was instantly killed after the 2015 elections,” he said.

Yisin lamented the economic hardship under the current administration, saying that the larger population of the country now live in abject poverty, with no sign of assuage while the government overkill the people with multiple taxation.

According to him, if the government continues its “anti-people” policies, “no one” will be left to cast his vote in the next election. He sent a save our soul message to Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election to rescue many people.

“Mr. Jonathan's unequaled leadership qualities, the former president hails from southern Nigeria; the region that is expected to maintain the nation's presidency for eight straight years starting from 2023. It is our humble belief that safeguarding the unwritten rules of power rotation between the two regions of north and south is very important for the unity and harmonious coexistence of multicultural Nigeria.”
