Security agents kill three bandits during gun battle, as Gov Mohammed visits wounded personnel

No fewer than three suspected bandits have been killed by a joint team of security agents during a gun battle in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Auwal Muhammad, has disclosed.

He stated this in an interview with journalists when the State Governor, Bala Mohammed, led security agencies and top government officials to visit some wounded personnel currently receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

Our Correspondent who was on the entourage observed that those injured are two Policemen, a Civil Defense Personnel and a local hunter.
He said: "There was an emergency situation and we receive intelligence report about the existence of some bandits in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the State where we share boundary with Taraba State.

"We quickly mobilized our hunters' squad, the Police and Civil Defense Corps to checkmate their movements.

"We succeeded and gunned down about three of them but unfortunately, they wounded one of the hunters and left him with a very serious issue on his leg. Then there were some bruises on some other personnel of the Civil Defense and the Police.

"His Excellency, in his magnanimity, came to personally visit them on their sick bed and this has gone a long way in boosting their morales. And even we, on the side, feel that we are determined to do our best to ensure that we keep Bauchi safe."

He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his efforts towards maintaining peace and security in the State, "and that's why, by God's, we are able to live peacefully in Bauchi State than any other state in the northeast," he added.

The Governor, restated his administration's commitment towards the protection of lives and property of residents of the State.

He said that the security architecture in the state has been fully mobilized to secure lives and property.

"I want to reaffirm that the Bauchi Security Committee under the leadership of the Commissioner of police, Director, DSS, Civil Defense Commander and the Brigade Commander have been working very well because the rules of engagement have been perfected and the communities are all involved. 

"Our security architecture is very unique, we are not publicizing so much but it is working because all the personnel are highly mobilized and incentivized to the extend that they can put their lives on the line of fire for people to be able to sleep. 

"We want our spiritual leaders to pray for them because they are working day in, day out, sacrificing so much. And that is why we will do everything possible to ensure peace and security of lives and property of all living in Bauchi State," he assured.

The Governor who gave them cash donations to the injured personnel, directed the Secretary to the State Government to liase with the Commissioner of Police to take over their medical bills and needs and those of their families.
