BERI trains 40 organisations on gender barriers in health

A non-governmental organisation, Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI) has trained 40 community-based women from various non-profit organisations with focus on health from different communities in Bauchi, Misau and Shira on developing programmes, advocating and influencing gender transformative and affirmative approaches to health.

Ms Deborah Ajibola, Programme Manager of BERI under its Gender Equity Fund project which focuses on Tuberculosis, HIV /AIDS and Malaria.

She said that the three year project commenced in 2024 with funding from The Global fund. The project would be implemented in Misau and Zaki local governments areas of Bauchi State.

She told participants that in programming, friendly tools should be adapted to generate causes and barriers that hinders access to healthcare in focused areas.

Participants were educated on the Participatory Learning Action (PLA) to allow community participation, identifying causes and barriers in the stated diseases.

Deborah re-echoed that serious interventions should be geared in the aforementioned disease to avert the spread of the infectious diseases.

The various sessions discussed gender equity in health for positive outcomes in malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV.

The activity was held in Jos, Plateau State with participants from Bauchi, Misau and Shira local government councils.
