The campaign against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) has been taken to secondary school by the ASHH Foundation to enlighten young people to become advocates and ambassadors for change.
Foundation believed that teaching young individuals the values of respect and equality will deter them from becoming perpetrators and inspire them to champion the cause of ending GBV in the society.
It is in this regard that, ASHH Foundation conducted a sensitization campaign at Hope Academy. During the session, Precious Alfred, one of the Foundation's project officers, educated students about the origins and significance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
According to Alfred, it is an annual global campaign that begins on November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and concludes on December 10 (International Human Rights Day).
Alfred emphasized the need for students, particularly girls, to report any inappropriate behavior or unwanted physical contact to their parents or teachers. She encouraged open communication and vigilance, stressing the importance of protecting one’s rights and body anatonomy.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim expressed gratitude to ASHH Foundation for selecting Hope Academy for such an impactful activity.
He acknowledged the critical role of awareness campaigns in fostering a safer environment for students and applauded the Foundation’s efforts to promote a culture of respect and protection for all.
