The Child is Gold Foundation (CIGF) has tasked the critical stakeholders to make the society more gender responsive for women and girls to thrive.
The Foundation stated this during this year's 16 Days of Activism against Sexual Gender Based Violence. Embarking on a street campaign, CIGF sensitised the residents of Bauchi on gender equality and fairness.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Project Coordinator, Kuulwaamsu Esly Yohanna who represented the Executive Director of the Foundation, Barrister Elizabeth George demanded 15 percent allocation of leadership positions to women. Also, community leaders should allow women to be part of the critical decision making processes.
“They should be provided with training and capacity-building programmes, and promote cultural shifts to challenge patriarchal norms and biases,” he said.
One of the community heads, Mal. Adamu Zubairu Ibrahim who was represented by Mal. Hussaini Musa welcomed the initiative and agreed to include more women in leadership positions and ensure women representation.
The Foundation, with support from Women for Women International, brought over 80 representatives from various civil society organisations and partners including the National Human Rights Commission.
There was a street rally, sharing flyers inscribed with inspiring, motivating and enlightening GBV related quotes, promoting gender equality, challenging patriarchal norms as well stimulating a more just and equitable society.
