The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering Education (RAEng), on Saturday, organised a one-day training workshop for aspiring engineering students of the institution.
The workshop was carried out by the Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology with support of the UK-Higher Education Partnership for Sub-Saharan Africa (HEPSSA) project.
Speaking before the commencement of the workshop, Prof. Robinson Ejilah, RAEng-HEPSSA Spoke University Project Lead, said that the project aimed to enhance the capacity of Sub-Saharan African Universities to develop engineers that are equipped for local and global challenges.
He explained that beyond the dissemination of knowledge, the workshop also aimed to ignite the participants’ passion for research, sharpen their critical thinking skills, and foster a powerful network of peers and mentors.
“This workshop will also provide a unique platform for the engineering students to deepen their understanding of research methodologies and encompassing areas such as research design, data collection, analysis and interpretation.
“Amongst others, the workshop will help us to develop effective scientific writing and communication skills to effectively disseminate research findings.
“We have assembled a distinguished panel of speakers, comprising outstanding academics, emerging industry leaders, and accomplished researchers.
“Their insightful presentations will not only enrich your understanding of key research concepts but also inspire you to pursue innovative and impactful research endeavors,” he said.
According to him, research served as a corner-stone of broader vision to empower the next generation of engineers, cultivate a research ecosystem within Nigerian universities and breach the gap between academia and industry by fostering the culture of innovation, curiosity and collaborative research.
Also, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Vice Chancellor, ATBU, urged the inspiring engineering students to change their thinking of solving societal problems by embarking on research that will impact society.
Represented by Prof. Suleiman Dodo, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, urged the engineering students to change their thinking of solving societal problems by embarking on research that will impact society.
He appreciated the efforts of UK-HEPSSA and RAEng for organising the workshop for students and urged all the participants to put into practice the knowledge acquired from the workshop by embarking on meaningful research.
