Bauchi Assembly, screens, confirms commissioner nominee via zoom

By Rauf Oyewole

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed one of the commissioner nominees forwarded to it by the Governor, Bala Mohammed on Tuesday after it dropped five commissioners.

One of the nominees, Usman Usman Shehu who was in Germany could not physically attend the screening due to flight restriction and that prompted the House to put on Zoom for virtual questioning.

Usman Shehu, who hails from Giade Local Government Area of the State, had his early education in Islamic studies before proceeding to primary and secondary schools in the state. The Germany-based Nigerian had his university education in Nigeria before proceeding abroad.

Despite his physical absence, the legislative screening was seamless, with members asking critical questions and receiving responses from the nominee.

The House confirmed Shehu as a commissioner and affirmed his competence and readiness to serve the people of the state.

The use of the Zoom platform for legislative screening marks a new innovation in Bauchi State’s legislative history.
