A seasoned media Consultant and a public affairs analyst, philanthropist and traditional titleholder, Alh. Abdulrahman Sade, Sadaukin Bauchi has expressed satisfaction over the competency and the antecedents of Minister of Works, David Umahi, while absolving him of an alleged award of section of Abuja-Kaduna road to non-existence firm.
Sade said that the allegation is mischievous, self centered with the aim to distract the attention of the minister.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, he said that the Minister, a respected Engineer, a seasoned and selfless politician having served as two term governor in Ebonyi state and got elected as senator before his appointment by the President, Bola Tinubu to serve as minister would never engage in shoddy contract.
He is the only minister that ply all abandoned and dilapidated roads by car to see the condition of Nigerian roads.
Sade who is also a prominent politician in Bauchi said: “I have known Umahi for a couple of years back, his records are there for anyone to see. Umahi is one of the most performing ministers in this administration.
"This I will say with all sense of honesty and without fear of contradictions, his taste for quality work has earned him accolades from different parts of the country.
“Take for instance, the flood that disconnected some part of the federal roads. One can imagine his swift intervention and timely delivery.
“On the Abuja-Kaduna road, it was reported in the media that he awarded the section of the road to non-existence company. It turned out to be inaccurate, the name of the company handling the project is different from what was reported in the media to have been inactive, although sound similar,” he said.
Sade added that the last administration left over 2,600 federal roads which Umahi had taken upon himself to fix if the government was ready to fund it with over N19trillion.
“He has been an advocate of concrete roads in Nigeria instead of asphalt to save cost. He came out to say that, see, we need to go for concrete roads, the government will save N640bn by constructing Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road.”
“When he was responding to the media report on the Abuja-Kaduna road contract, he made it clear during a press conference that the Ministry has no business relationship with Infoquest Nigeria Ltd, the firm they claimed was handling the road.
The actual company working on the project is Infiouest International Limited, which is in compliance with all legal requirements and regulations of the Company and Allied Matters Act,” he said.
Dr Sade implored all and soundry especially the media and groups to give Umahi the support and prayers for the betterment of our country.
