NYSC warns corps members against destruction of camp structures

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned the newly sworn in corps members across the country against destruction of hostels and other camp structures in their various locations.

The Director General of NYSC, Brig -Gen Yushau Ahmed made the call on Friday, during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2024 Batch 'C' stream II corps members in Wailo, NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

Represented by Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the Bauchi state Coordinator of NYSC, Ahmed warned that any corps member found wanting would be ‘seriously’ sanctioned in accordance with the scheme’s extant rules.

He said this was necessary in order to adequately maintain the newly renovated orientation camp by Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state.

“I want to use this medium to ask the corps members to do well and maintain the structures you have met.

“You met the hostels and other structures in good shape, we don't want to have breakages and ensure that you don't destroy anything in your various hostels and the camp at large,” he said.

The DG explained that out of the 2,200 corps members posted to the state, a total of 1,442 Corps Members, comprising 671 males and 771 females had been successfully registered before the swearing in ceremony.

In his address, Gov. Bala Mohammed urged the corps members to take the lead and advocate for national development and transformation.

Represented by his deputy, Alh Auwal Jatau, Mohammed called on them to take the noble call with utmost seriousness and commit themselves to achieving the scheme's objective of national unity and development.

“This orientation course marks the beginning of your journey towards greater achievements and future accomplishments as it's designed to familiarise you with the customs and traditions of your host communities.

“I encourage you to start contemplating the initiation of meaningful community development service projects in your areas of primary assignment right from the camp.

“I believe this should occupy your thoughts and prevent you from engaging in inappropriate behaviors while in camp and during your service,” he said.
