Emir of Dass commits to reducing out-of-school children in Bauchi

By Ahmed Ahmed

The Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Alhaji Usman Biliyaminu Othman, has made a commitment to ensure that all adolescent girls, out-of-school children, and children of school age return to school in his domain.

He stated this when Project Coordinator of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, Mr Ali Gar and his team paid him an advocacy visit in his palace Dass on Thursday.

Othman said this pledge comes in response to the alarming number of out-of-school children in the community, which poses a potential danger to society.

The Emir expressed concern that some parents allow their children to drop out of school due to the prohibition on hawking in the domain.

To address this issue, he has pledged to support the AGILE programme, which aims to improve secondary education opportunities among girls in the state.

The Emir has directed district heads, ward heads, and community leaders to ensure effective supervision of schools, students, and teachers.

He emphasized the importance of education for all children, regardless of their social and economic background.

Mr. Ali Gar, Project Coordinator of the AGILE project, emphasized that the key focus of the campaign is reducing the out-of-school population, particularly among girls.

He noted that the state government recognizes the importance of girls' education in creating a prosperous and inclusive society.

The AGILE project plans to establish 42 new secondary schools across the state, providing access to quality education for all children.

The project team has also conducted an advocacy visit to Government Day Secondary School Mararraban Liman Katagum of Bauchi LGA.
