Groups hold rally, call for implementation of VAPP, Child Protection laws in Bauchi

Bauchi based groups, ‘Aid Connect for Development (AIDCODE) and Care Best Initiatives (CBI), have conducted a peaceful rally calling for the full implementation of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and Child Protection laws in the state.

The groups, who were accompanied by the representatives of other Civil Society Organisations in the state, trekked from the state Secretariat, the Ministry of Women Affairs wing down to the Bauchi state government house on Wednesday to press home their demands.

Speaking at the take off of the rally, Mr Sale Mam’man, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, lauded the groups for the wake up call and expressed the ministry’s commitment in fast tracking the full implementation of the two laws in the state.
 
According to him, the child protection law has already been accented to by Gov. Bala Mohammad of Bauchi state and would soon be gazetted by the ministry of Justice, calling on all the CSOs in the state to be part of the implementation process. 

Speaking to the procession at the gate of the Government House Bauchi, Mrs Abigail Hardo, the Executive Director of AIDCODE, expressed the CSOs appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for assenting to the two laws.

She described the action as a landmark achievement that would guarantee child survival to full potential and also a protective shield for the girl-child against sexual and gender based violence. 

While also appreciating the wife of the governor, Mrs Aisha Mohammed for her resolve to bring succour to the lives of women and children in the State, Hardo appealed for the full implementation of the two laws. 

She reiterated the commitment of the CSOs in partnering with the Government in the implementation process. 

She explained that AIDCODE partnership with CBI is under the Global Affairs Canada funded ASPIRE Project, being implemented by Plan International.

The procession was held amidst band beats and displaying of placards with messages advocating for the implementation of the laws.
