Bauchi councillors remove LGA chairman over alleged financial misconduct

The members of Shira Local Government Legislative Council of Bauchi State have removed the elected Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Beli and his deputy Hon. Usman Adamu over alleged gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, failure to perform duties and abuse of office.

In a letter of Resolution SLGLC No. 30 issued on February 28, 2025 and obtained on Monday, the lawmakers said that the council appointed a committee to investigate allegations against the Chairman of Shira Local Government Council and his deputy.

According to the letter, the committee has submitted its report, “which has been considered by this council; and whereas the report has found the chairman and his deputy guilty of the allegations made against them.”

The letter signed by the Council Leader, Hon. Wali Adamu and his deputy, Hon. Abdullahi said that “This Council hereby removes the Chairman (Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli) and his deputy Hon Usman Adamu from office, as Chairman and vice Chairman of Shira Local Government respectively, effective immediately from today.”

Giving the reasons for the removal, the Council leaders leaders, said that the removal of the Chairman and his deputy was based on the findings of investigation committee, which has established that the chairman and his deputy were engaged in financial mismanagement, failed to perform their duties, breached the trust placed on them and abused their office.

“This Council hereby declares the office of the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Shira Local Government Vacant.”
