Bauchi PDP Chairman's Appointee Resigns Over Unpaid Salary

By Khalid Idris Doya

Media Assistant to the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Muazu Hardawa, on Tuesday tendered his resignation over unpaid salaries.

Hardawa, who was appointed to the position on July 3, 2020, initially served under former state party chairman Hon. Hamza Koshe Akuyam.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman in Bauchi, Hardawa expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.

After the PDP State Congress on August 31, 2024, Hardawa continued in his role under the new leadership of Pharmacist Samaila Burga, who took over from Hon. Hamza Koshe Akuyam.

"Upon Hon. Burga's assumption of office on September 4, 2024, I promptly introduced myself to him at the PDP office. Subsequently, the PDP State Secretary, Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo, and the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, formally presented me to the new chairman and requested that I continue in my role."

Hardawa explained that during his tenure, he diligently carried out his duties, "The PRO instructed me to submit all media-related work for dissemination, while the Chairman directed the Secretary to ensure the continued payment of my salary.

"However, despite rendering my services for five months, I have not received my salary, despite several attempts to follow up with the Secretary,” he said.

After exhausting all efforts, Hardawa approached Chairman Samaila Burga at his residence to formally raise the issue, "He expressed surprise at the situation and advised me to visit the office, assuring me that he would facilitate my payment, even if it had to come from his personal salary. However, no resolution was reached," he added.

"On January 8, 2025, following the resignation of Hon. Adamu Babayo Gabarin, who took up a commissioner role, Chairman Burga reiterated his directive for my outstanding salary to be paid. Unfortunately, the issue remained unresolved.

"Consequently, on Friday, February 14, 2025, Chairman Burga, visibly displeased, instructed me to summon the Secretary, Hon. Bakoji Bobbo, so we could appear before him for a final decision on the matter.

"In light of these circumstances and to avoid any unnecessary disputes over my unpaid salary, I have decided to tender my resignation from this position. I pray for Allah's guidance and support. My commitment to the PDP dates back to the administration of Governor Ahmed," Hardawa added.

Hardawa highlighted his extensive contributions to the party, stating that he served as the Editor of the PDP-sponsored newspaper Tanadin Alleri, which was funded by Hon. Bala Dambam, former Minister of Defence Yayale Ahmed, and the Jarman Bauchi, Alhaji Garba Noma.

"Following the end of Mu'azu’s administration, I continued as the Editor of Koda Naka, a PDP publication under Senator Abdul Ningi in 2014," he added.

"Additionally, I was the Editor of Gyara Kayanka during Malam Isa Yuguda's tenure as Governor after he rejoined the PDP.

"I played an active role in the media strategy for the election campaign of Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, which led to his victory. Upon his inauguration as Governor, the party appointed me as the Special Assistant on Media to the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Hamza Koshe."

"Throughout my years of service, I have consistently promoted the vision and policies of the PDP, despite facing significant challenges, including threats and intimidation from opposition parties and security agencies. However, I remained steadfast in my role until now, when I have decided to step down.

"I express my profound gratitude to the leadership of the PDP, Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, and all those I have worked with. I pray for the continued success of the party and its administration.

"Going forward, I remain committed to supporting the PDP and the government of Senator Bala Mohammed in my capacity as an independent journalist. May Allah guide and bless us all," Hardawa concluded.
