NCWS calls for safer markets, respect for women's ambitions

By Najib Sani, Gombe

The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) Gombe State chapter has called for safer markets and respect for women's ambitions.

State president of the council, Hauwa Saraki made the call in her goodwill message at the commemoration of the 2025 international women's day organised by the state ministry of women affairs held at Amina hall in Gombe.

She said their call to action for gender equality and women's empowerment was imperative in view of the marginalisation and challenges faced by women in the society which impede their progress.

"We demand safer markets with childcare corners for nursing mothers, so our women can thrive economically without sacrificing their roles as caregivers.

"We must promote respect for women's ambitions and aspirations, and ensure access to quality healthcare, particularly maternal healthcare", she stated.

In her speech at the celebration, the state first lady, Asma'u Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the commissioner for women affairs, Asma'u Iganus, said Governor Inuwa Yahaya's leadership is committed to promoting gender equity.

She added that his administration has prioritised maternal healthcare and revamped primary healthcare centres.
