‘Philanthropist Bala Wunti not interested in Bauchi governorship’

By Rauf Oyewole

A philanthropist in Bauchi State and the current Chief Health, Safety, and Environment Officer at NNPC Limited, Bala Wunti has been distanced from partisan politics –especially state governorship contests.

Wunti, who is known for his interventions in empowerment, education sponsorship, agriculture, health and food materials donations has been rumoured to be vying for the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

One of his associates, Usman Ya’u Darazo, explained that Wunti has never shown interest in joining politics but is passionate about impacting lives –particularly the less privileged. “Despite these interventions, many people have been dragging his name into the mucky waters of party politics.”

Yau said as part of efforts to encourage him, a football tournament has been organised to celebrate his work and a call to action for the public to recognise and appreciate the efforts of those who serve their communities without political motives.

“This tournament is about honoring a man who has dedicated his life to serving others. It’s a reminder that public service should be celebrated, not politicised. We want to inspire the youth and everyone in Bauchi to focus on the positive impact one individual can make when they commit to the betterment of society.”

According to him, the event will feature some of the best football talents in the state, with the media and community leaders in attendance. It is a clarion call to disregard baseless allegations and focus on the transformative work Bala Wunti has done and continues to do.

The tournament commenced on 21 March at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium with free access to everyone.
