The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has 'hailed' President Bola Tinubu for keeping to his promise of continuing from where Buhari stopped.
Obi who was being sarcastic with his statement when he visited Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on Thursday, said that Nigerians having tried both religion and tribalism, must now vote for competence and capacity to move the nation forward.
"Tinubu promised to continue where Buhari stopped. If you look at it, Buhari left the dollar at about N400, today it is about N1,500. Rice was about N40,000, it is now over N100,000. Fuel was about N300, it is now over N1,000. I can go on and on, everything has doubled and tripped. So he has done exactly as he promised.
"We are coming together for the future of a better society where our children will live. We have waisted enough time, it's time to invest.
"In Indonesia, a president was sworn in, about the same time, another one was sworn in Nigeria. Ten years after, the Indonesia government moved their GDP from 800 billion dollars to 1.3 trillion dollars. Their per Capita moved from $3,000 to $5,000.
"Here in Nigeria, our government from our GDP from $500 billion and per Capita of $3,500 to $200 billion and per Capita of below $2,000 - that is the difference.
"I want the industries to return. We want things to change. We want invest in critical area of development and invest in education and health," he said.
On the purpose of his visit, Peter Obi said that he has started discussions with the Bauchi governor over the bad state of affairs of the country and how to make it better.
"We have just started discussion. You can't consummate a marriage in one day. But the most important thing is that our thoughts centered on issues that bothers the ordinary Nigerian. We want a Nigeria where a child of nobody can become somebody. We want to give the Nigerian child hope and future.
"We will remove elite conspiracy that the elites use to divide the people - tribalism and religion. We have voted tribe and we have voted religion, we now want to deal with competence and capacity," the LP leader added.
On his part, Governor Bala Mohammed stressed that their collaboration would transcend party and other interest for the development of the country.
"Our collaboration transcends party, religion and geopolitical zones and personal interests. The government in power relish in being undertakers in different parties. We will use knowledge, tact and strategies to transcend all these beyond their expectations," the governor noted.
