AIG urges police personnel to be accountable, professional

By Rauf Oyewole

The Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG) Zone 12, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, has charged the operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command to abide by the oath taken while joining the command.

Aliyu said this while interacting with officers and men of the Command on Wednesday. The newly posted AIG warned the officers to shun unprofessional conduct and be accountable to the people.

While addressing the personnel of the Command, AIG said that: “One thing that we should always know is that, from my humble self down to the junior officers, we are on Oath, one day, we will account for our actions and inactions. We are here to serve humanity, not only humanity, even animals have their rights to be protected.

“We are on Oath to protect human rights and incidentally these rights are codified in chapter four of the Nigeria Constitution of 1999.”

He warned the personnel to desist from brutalising the people they were employed to protect.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said that appropriate security measures laid down in the Command has resulted in tranquility being enjoyed in the state.

“It may interest you to know that the Command has recorded zero student abductions, reflecting the impact of our visibility policing and intelligence-led operations. In a bid to consolidate these gains, and in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s initiative to provide a secure atmosphere for institutions of learning across the country, the Command is on the verge of launching the IGP’s Safe School Protection Squad.”

According to him, this squad will be equipped with state-of-the-art, real-time intelligence-gathering tools and highly trained personnel dedicated to safeguarding educational institutions across the state.

He said that AIG’s visit was a source of renewed strength and direction, reaffirming his leadership’s commitment to operational excellence. He expressed gratitude over the presence and support of his zone 12 Police Boss.
