Bauchi govt to honour deceased workers who died on duty

The Bauchi State Urban Water and Sewerage Corporation (BSUWSC) has said that it is planning to honour the four deceased workers of the Agency who died on Sunday while carrying out routine maintenance at the Gubi Dam water treatment plant.

Board Chairman of the Corporation, Alhaji Yayanuwa Zainabari said this on Monday while condoling the fallen heroes, whom he described as dedicated and committed staff.

Four workers –Shayibu Hamza 48; Abdulmalik Yahya 29; Jamilu Inusa 29; and Ibrahim Musa had lost their lives during a scheduled maintenance operation on Sunday. 

Zainabari said that the tragedy has brought immense grief to the Corporation and the entire Bauchi community. “The deceased were dedicated professionals who served the people of Bauchi State with unwavering commitment and dignity.

“This heartbreaking loss is not only a personal tragedy for their loved ones, but also a significant loss to the water sector in the state. Their contribution toward the improvement and sustainability of our urban water system will forever be remembered.

“As an institution, we are devastated by this incident. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and assure them of our full support during this incredibly difficult time. Plans are underway to honour their memory in a lasting and respectful manner,” he said.

He urged all staff across the Corporation’s facilities to continue upholding the values of diligence and safety. Adding that the Corporation remains committed to reviewing and strengthening safety protocols to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
