NSCDC arrests 45-yr-old man for railway vandal, recovers stolen tracks in Bauchi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi State Command has arrested a suspected railway vandal and recovered stolen materials, including railway sleepers, bolts, and nuts, worth millions of naira in the State.

Mr Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde, the Commandant of the Command, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Monday in Bauchi.

He said in continuation of the Corps’ unwavering commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, the Command has recorded significant progress in the fight against vandalism.

“On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at approximately 10:00 am, following credible intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS) Alkaleri Division, our operatives responded swiftly to a report of railway track vandalism at New Gwaram, along Gombe Road. 

“Although the suspects had fled the scene before our arrival, we were able to recover some exhibits,” Oyerinde said.

He said the personnel quickly responded and recovered a white Peugeot J5 vehicle loaded with vandalized railway materials, including 53 railway sleepers with bolts and nuts, 14 railway fish plates, and 20 bags of charcoal.

According to him, in a follow-up operation carried out in Cross Tasha, Faruqu, and Taliyaje areas of Tubule Ward in Kirfi Local Government, 

“Our team successfully arrested one Usman Jungudo, a 45-year-old male, for the unlawful dismantling and sale of railway track components. 

“During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to his involvement and several items were recovered as evidence and are now in custody at our state headquarters,” he said.

The Commandant commend the diligence and timely response of the officers, whose dedication led to the breakthrough in this case. 

“I want to use this opportunity to send a clear message: We will not tolerate vandalism of public property in Bauchi State. Those who engage in such criminal acts will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He said Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly upon conclusion.

He urged all residents of Bauchi State to partner with the command by reporting suspicious activities.

“Timely and accurate information remains a critical tool in defeating crime and safeguarding our communities,” he said
