The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 100 illegal medicine shops in Gombe State as part of its efforts to regulate and control the practice of pharmacy in the country.
Head of Enforcement at PCN in Gombe State, Dr Suleiman S. Chiroma, revealed this while addressing newsmen.
He said that seven individuals were also arrested for breaking the council's seal on their shops in 2022 and 2024, and would face prosecution for tampering with the seal.
According to him, the sealed shops were found guilty of various offenses, including non-renewal of licenses, operating from illegal premises, engaging in illegal clinical practices, and stocking medicines beyond the PCN-approved patent medicines list.
These actions, he said, compromise the safety, potency, and effectiveness of medicines available to Nigerians.
"The PCN remains committed to ensuring that Nigerians have access to safe, potent, and effective medicines.
"The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) is established by establishment act No. 31 of 2022 and charged with the responsibility of regulating and controlling the education, training and practice of pharmacy in all its aspects and ramification", he noted.
